The invention relates to device (1) for cleaning bottles (2) comprising a substantially closed housing having at least one cleaning basin in which bottles can be cleaned in a hot cleaning agent by means of dip coating, and spray nozzles (7) by means of which the cleaning agent can be sprayed with colder water or the like, wherein at least one unit is provided for checking the function of at least individual, and preferably all, spray nozzles (7). A method is also disclosed for cleaning bottles (2), said method comprising at least the following steps: cleaning the bottles (2) with a hot cleaning agent in at least one dipping bath and then spraying out the bottles (2) with colder water, wherein an at least random monitoring of the fluid movement of a spray device is carried out for the spray treatment of the bottles.
