Abstract The disclosure relates to a 5G or pre-5G communication system for supporting higher data transmission rates than 4G communication systems such as LTE systems. According to the disclosure, a method for performing beamforming by a base station in a wireless communication system comprises obtaining transmission time proportions allocated to a plurality of beam directions and performing beamforming to send control information in the plurality of beam directions based on the obtained transmission time proportions. A base station configured to perform beamforming in a wireless communication system, includes a transceiver configured to perform beamforming communication with a UE, and a processor configured to obtain transmission time proportions allocated to each of a plurality of beam directions, and control beamforming for sending control information based on the obtained transmission time proportions.
