Abstract Altitude detection by an electronic device includes: obtaining altitude information at a location of the electronic device by satellite positioning; obtaining altitude information at said location on the basis of atmospheric pressure data detected at said location; obtaining error in the satellite positioning; and, on the basis of the error obtained, causing the altitude information obtained by the satellite positioning and the altitude information obtained on the basis of the detected atmospheric pressure data to be selectively output to a user or a component of the electronic device.
