Summary:The invention relates to a dishwasher, in particular a domestic dishwasher (1), having: a control device (8) for controlling a washing cycle for cleaning items to be washed using at least one washing program (SP) stored in the control device (8); a washing container (2) for accommodating the items to be washed; a water tank (12) for storing water (W), in particular fresh water (FW); and a drain pump (19), which can be controlled by the control device (8), for pumping wastewater (AW) out of the washing container (2) via a drainage pipe (20), which leads through the water tank (12); wherein the washing program (SP) is designed in such a manner that the wastewater (AW) is pumped out at least once by means of a pumping-out sequence (APS), which comprises at least one pumping-out subsequence (TAS1, TAS2, TAS3), which has in each case a pumping-out step (AP1, AP2, AP3) for pumping out a part-volume (TV1, TV2, TV3) of the wastewater (AW) and a subsequent pumping-out pause step (APP1, APP2, APP3) for transferring thermal energy from the part-volume (TV1, TV2, TV3) of the wastewater (AW) to the stored water (W).
