Abstract A video arthroscope (200) includes a rigid insertion tube 202 and a proximal body (204). The proximal body (204) includes an insertion assembly (206), a focus assembly (208), and a camera attachment assembly (210). The camera attachment assembly (210) couples a detachable video camera assembly (212) to the proximal body (204) of the video arthroscope, wherein proximal body (204) comprsies light sources (220). Electric power is conveyed from the video camera assembly (212) to the light sources (220) either by slip ring connection (232, 234, 236) or by a pair of inductive coils (304).
