Abstract The present disclosure relates to a method for controlling a reciprocating internal combustion engine (100) operating at least partly on gaseous fuel. The method may comprise receiving (step 402) a pressure data set of a combustion event. The method may further comprise deriving an actual combustion duration (step 420) of the combustion event from the received pressure data set, and determining (step 428) that the derived combustion duration of the combustion event is shorter than a preset combustion duration. The method may further comprise providing a control signal (step 440) to adapt an operation of the internal combustion engine (100).
