Abstract The invention relates to an isolated protein or peptide of Schmallenberg Virus (SBV), preferably comprising or consisting of 5 to 50 amino acids of the SBV nucleocapsid protein, preferably of 5 to 40, more preferably of 5 to 20 amino acids, even more preferably 12 to 16 amino acids, even more preferably of 5 to 7 amino acids, preferably forming part of or comprising or consisting of SEQ ID No. 2 to 144 or a fragment thereof or having at least 90% sequence identity with one of SEQ ID NO 2 - 144, preferably at least 95%, more preferably at least 98% sequence identity, methods of SBV detection and kits for use in SBV detection.
