Summary:In an electric power steering apparatus (1) including a capacitor (10) for smoothing out the voltage of a battery (6) and a relay (9) including a relay contact (9a) disposed at a place upstream of the capacitor (10), a path (diode 14) is provided for directly conducting a terminal voltage of the capacitor (10) from a downstream side of the relay contact (9a) to a system power supply (13) that generates a source voltage Vcc for a control system including a controller (17) and the like, so that the system power supply (13) and the control system that is supplied therefrom with electric power for control purpose are utilized as a discharge circuit. Thus is obtained a simplified configuration of circuit responsible for discharging the capacitor.
