Abstract The invention relates to an aiming guide system (220) for aligning a surgical tool with a hole in a bone plate (290). The aiming guide system comprising an arm portion (210) having a longitudinal axis, top (208) and bottom surfaces (207), two side surfaces, and first and second ends, and at least one bore (212) extending through the arm portion (210) and a tool guide (60) having a longitudinal axis (A-A) and a channel (65) in the direction of the longitudinal axis (A-A) of the tool guide (60). The arm portion (210) is curved along a portion of its side surfaces, and the bore (212) and the tool guide (60) are configured and adapted such that the tool guide (60) is received in the bore (212) in at least two different preset positions which locates the channel (65) in at least two different hole positions.
