Abstract A method and system are disclosed for beam welding two members (102) made of a metallic material. The method comprising placing a first shim (302) along a weld joint faying surface (106) between the two members (102) of the metallic material, placing a second shim (306) along the weld joint faying surface (106) between the two members (102) of the metallic material and at a distance from the first shim (302) to create a first vent path (304) between the first and the second shim (306) and beam welding the members (102) of the metallic material with the shim to create a porosity (202) free weld.
