Summary:The method involves transmitting an electrical signal at a predetermined transmission speed starting from an end of an electrical link at an instant, and detecting reception of an echo of the signal at another instant. A variation model of the transmission speed of the signal is established in the electrical link based on the length of the electrical link traveled by the signal. A fault location is estimated from predetermined transmission speed and the variation model of the transmission speed in the electrical link based on difference between the two instants. An independent claim is also included for an installation for locating a fault in an electrical energy-transporting cable in an electrical link, comprising two fault locating devices connected to two different ends of an electrical link.
