Summary:The appliance has a covering plate (10) made of transparent or semi-transparent material e.g. glass or ceramic material, and a marking e.g. three-dimensional laser-inner engraving, attached on a surface of the plate. A lighting arrangement (14) is provided for back lighting of the marking and has an illumination unit (16) for back lighting of the marking from a rear side of the plate. The unit has a plate and/or disk-shaped light guide (18) that is arranged behind the plate in an area of the marking. A LED (26) is arranged at a side surface (32) of the guide.
