Abstract The steering control (1) has an arrangement for detecting contact between at least one hand of the vehicle driver and the steering control (free hand detection). The free hand detection is carried out using at least one electrically conducting metal body that is arranged in the steering control. The steering control has a capacitive free hand detection arrangement. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a steer-by-wire system for a motor vehicle (b) and a steering arrangement for a motor vehicle with active steering moment application.
