Abstract | Provided are a backlight unit (2) using an organic light emitting element (22) in which the efficiency of light extraction is improved without decreasing productivity to achieve high brightness and a low consumption power, and a liquid crystal display device (LCD) including the backlight unit. To achieve this, a backlight unit (2) includes a substrate (21), an organic light emitting element (22) formed on the substrate (21) and emitting white light, an encapsulating member (23) attached to the substrate (21) to seal the organic light emitting element (22), and a scattering film (25) formed on a side towards which light is emitted from the organic light emitting element (22) and formed on one surface of surfaces of the substrate (21), the organic light emitting element (22) and the encapsulating member (23). |
