The present invention relates to HCV NS3 proteins and nucleic acids. In particular said HCV NS3 combines major epitopes correlating with the control of HCV infection. The HCV NS3 proteins and nucleic acids of the invention, or compositions comprising them are of use in prophylactic and therapeutic treatment of HCV infection. Specifically, the HCV NS3 proteins and nucleic acids are used in the preparation of a vaccine composition for the prophylactic and therapeutic treatment of HCV.
