Process for reducing nitrogen oxide emissions in medium with excess of oxidants

The process enables the reduction of nitrogen oxides to nitrogen in a gaseous medium containing 1 - 20% of oxygen with a minimum emission of nitrous oxide. The process for reducing the emission of nitrogen oxides in a super stoichiometric oxidizing atmosphere comprises: (a) An oxidation stage in the...

Summary:The process enables the reduction of nitrogen oxides to nitrogen in a gaseous medium containing 1 - 20% of oxygen with a minimum emission of nitrous oxide. The process for reducing the emission of nitrogen oxides in a super stoichiometric oxidizing atmosphere comprises: (a) An oxidation stage in the presence of an oxidizing material; (b) Injection of organic compounds , the molecules comprising at least one atom of C, H, O or N; (c) Adsorption of the organic compound on an adsorbing material in the form of molecular species and/or carbonaceous residues; and (d) Selective reduction of the nitrogen oxides to molecular nitrogen. An Independent claim is also included for the use of the process to reduce nitrogen oxide emission to meet the demands of environmental regulations.
