Abstract The material sampling appts. has a diffusion body (1) which incorporates a cylindrical tube of porous polyethylene with one end cap (2) closed and the other (3) with an opening for the attachment of a connector (8) with an inner recess (9). An adsorption cartridge (7) is made from a tube of electrically welded stainless steel wire mesh, which is fitted into the body and centred by means of a projection (4) on the inside of the closed cap. This offers a radially symmetrical diffusion path for the volatile material to provide an optimal ratio of surface area to diffusion path length.
