Abstract | Selective addition of substance is used to produce, on the external surface of a solid carbon-based substrate (1), a surface coating of a material containing carbon and/or a carbide, adhering strongly to the substrate, having a high specific surface and exhibiting open pores (5) with a depth of at least 1 nm, and on this surface layer is deposited, substantially filling the said pores, a metallic material which has a high affinity for carbon, comprising at least one metal chosen from cerium, cobalt, chromium, iron, hafnium, iridium, osmium, palladium, platinum, rhodium, ruthenium, lanthanum, manganese, molybdenum, nickel, silicon, tantalum, thorium, titanium, uranium and tungsten.
The metallic deposit (8) can be ground and polished without debonding to produce a low-inertia mirror. |
