Die Anmeldung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Ketonen der Formel in der R¹ bis R³ Wasserstoff und R¹ bis R Alkyl- mit 1 bis 12 Kohlenstoffatomen, Cycloalkyl- mit 4 - 8 Kohlenstoffatomen, Aryl-, Aralkyl- bzw. Alkylarylreste, die ihrerseits substituiert sein können, bedeuten bzw. R¹ und R² und R³ zusammen mit den C-Atomen, an die sie gebunden sind, ein Cycloalkan bilden, bei dem man Ketone der Formel in der einer der Reste, R¹, R², R³ oder R ein Hydroxy-, Alkoxy- oder Carboxylrest bedeuten und ansonsten die Reste R¹ bis R obige Bedeutung haben, mit Wasserstoff in Gegenwart von sauren Katalysatoren, die zumindest eine Hydrierkomponente tragen, umsetzt. Besonders geeignet sind Zeolithe des Pentasiltyps. Ketones of the formula where R1 to R3 are each hydrogen and R1 to R4 are each alkyl of 1 to 12 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl of 4 to 8 carbon atoms, aryl, aralkyl or alkylaryl, which each in turn may be substituted, or R1 and R2 and R3 together with the carbon atoms to which they are bonded form a cycloalkane, are prepared by reacting ketones of the formula where one of R1, R2, R3 and R5 is hydroxyl, alkoxy or carboxyl while the remaining R1 to R4 have the abovementioned meanings, with hydrogen in the presence of acid catalysts supporting one or more hydrogenation components, zeolites of the pentasil type being particularly suitable.
