Hydrocarbon gel prepn. in large amts. - by mixing aq. surfactant soln. with hydrocarbon and feeding through porous body to separate gel

Prepn. of hydrocarbon gels (I) esp. fuel-gels in which an aq. surfactant soln. is added to the hydrocarbgon and the mixt. is intimately mixed comprises adding 0.4-45 vol. pts. aq. surfactant soln. contg. 0.01-20 (pref. 0.1-10) wt.% surfactant to the hydrocarbon and feeding the mixt. through porous g...

Summary:Prepn. of hydrocarbon gels (I) esp. fuel-gels in which an aq. surfactant soln. is added to the hydrocarbgon and the mixt. is intimately mixed comprises adding 0.4-45 vol. pts. aq. surfactant soln. contg. 0.01-20 (pref. 0.1-10) wt.% surfactant to the hydrocarbon and feeding the mixt. through porous glass, metal, ceramic or synthetic bodies with a porosity of 0-4 (pref. 0-1) at an initial speed of 0.01-1000 (pref. 0.1-10) cms-1 to produce a hydrocarbon gel contg. 50-99.5 (pref. 80-95.5) wt.% hydrocarbon. The gel is sepd. from the mixt. in a known way. ADVANTAGE - (I) can be easily prepd. in large amounts. The surfactant used is pref. an anionic cpd. of formula (CnH2n+1X)+Y in which X is sulph(on)ate, Y is sodium- or potassium cation, n is 10-25 esp. 10-15. The surfactant used has the formula (CnH2n+1X)+Y in which X is an ammonium cation, Y is bromide- or chloride anion, n is 10-25 esp. 10-15. The non-polar, org. phase is aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic hydrocarbons or their mixt. The hydrocarbon and aq. surfactant mixt. is pumped or pressed once or repeatedly through porous bodies placed one after the other with similar or different porosity.es
