Summary:Aromatic polyether ketones (I) with ends gps. from chemical cpds. which as polymers, characterised by critical mol. wt. Mc, have in the melt a low entangling density are claimed. Entangling density of polymers in melt can be described through mol. wt. of chain segment between two loops of the chain in the melt; entangling density is very high if Mc (S.M. Aharoni, Macromolecules 1986, 19, 426 et seq.) is small; polymers employed for the modification have Mc at least 15,000, esp. more than 30,000, g/mol.. Prepn. of (I) by reaction of aromatic dihydroxy cpds. and aromatic dihalo cpds. with keto gps. and/or aromatic monohalo-monohydroxy cpd. contg. keto gps. in polar solvents in presence of end gps. with low entangling. USE/ADVANTAGE - Opt. in admixture with other polymers and/or additives, for prepn. of shaped articles (claimed). (I) have increased flowability, facilitating filling moulds and preventing surface inhomogeneities in prepn. of complicated mouldings.
