A process for the preparation of methyl carboxylates by the reaction of mono or dicarboxylic acids having more than 5 carbon atoms and methanol in the presence of acidic catalysts at temperatures from 100 DEG to 150 DEG C. and below the boiling point of the carboxylates being produced.
