Abstract | The figure shows a U boat or submarine (B) receiving a sonar signal (A), not specific and pointing a convoy, limited by the flanks (C and D). The convoy consists of the targets (1 to 13), protecting craft (1, 3, 5, 7) and ordinary ships (8 to 13) sailing closely together. A target signal (Z) is formed from the sonar signal to give an acoustic centre of gravity. In order not to disturb the actual contact, three fictitious targets (1', 2', 3') are formed and located near the front edge of the contact. The torpedoes are launched on these "targets" on the paths (To1', To2', To3'), and the process repeated as the information changes. |
