Abstract | A powdered mixt. of refractory and fuel is fed with oxygen through a nozzle pipe which can be moved in both directions along the axis of the converter. The mixt. and oxygen are fed radially outwards in two opposite directions towards the converter wall, and the fuel burns in the oxygen to form stream of flame contg. the refractory. The pref. coating plant consists of an axial nozzle pipe mounted on a wagon driven vertically between guides; and the pipe can be rotated in either direction on the wagon. The use of refractory materials is reduced, and the pollution of the steelworks atmos. is minimised, while the working life of the lining is increased. |
