Abstract A method or removing liquid, radioactive waste from nuclear power stations operates on the principle of concentration in an evaporator, collecting the concentrate and then placing the collected radioactive waste together with a solidifying agent in a storage vessel. The concentrate is mechanically dried to give a solids fraction and a liquid fraction; only the solids fraction is mixed with solidifying agent and placed in the storage vessel, while the liquid fraction is recycled to the collecting tank, optionally via the evaporator. Transportation, solidification and final storage of the water fraction in the liquid waste is rendered unnecessary. Thus the total quantity of radioactive concentrate to be handled is reduced. A considerable savings in expensive manipulator handling of solid components in hot cells is achieved.
