Pure pentasodium triphosphate soln - prepd from phosphoric acid via alkali phosphate passed through cation exchanger

Highly pure Na5P301 degree soln. for use in detergent industry is prepd. from technical H3PO4 in aq. soln., admixed with Na alkali to set up an Na2O : P2O5 mol. ratio which is higher (pref. 3.5 to 4.5) than mol. ratio corresp. to Na5P3O10 (i.e. 5:3). After removing all pptes. formed, excess Na ions...

Summary:Highly pure Na5P301 degree soln. for use in detergent industry is prepd. from technical H3PO4 in aq. soln., admixed with Na alkali to set up an Na2O : P2O5 mol. ratio which is higher (pref. 3.5 to 4.5) than mol. ratio corresp. to Na5P3O10 (i.e. 5:3). After removing all pptes. formed, excess Na ions are removed for H ions, pref. by using a chelate-forming-, or a weakly acid- or a strongly acid cation exchanger, in order to set the mol. ratio corresp. to Na5P3O10. All or part of phosphate soln. may be led through cation exchanger. Spent chelate-forming or weakly acid cation exchanger may be regenerated with a volatile acid, or an acid with a volatile acid residue, esp. sulphurous or carbonic acid, while strong acid cation exchanger may be regenerated with a volatile acid, or an acid with a volatile acid residue, esp., sulphurous or carbonic acid, while strong acid cation exchanger may be regenerated with a strong acid, esp., H2SO4 or H3PO4.
