The arrangement comprises a fuel tank (6) which is mounted on the car body ancillary frame (1), having at least one support face (7-9) limiting the fuel tank vertical motion, in addition to the wheel suspension (2). A second support face (11,12) limits the fuel tank forward and rearward motion. The fuel tank is held against the two support faces by a clamp (9) extending over a surface of the fuel tank, opposite to that held by the first support face. The ancillary frame may have a rectangular main body (4,5), a reinforcing element (7,8) across the main body, and an element (11) for supporting the fuel tank front side.
