Verfahren zur Herstellung von Aluminiumoxyd mit ueberwiegendem Gehalt an Trihydrat

Alumina predominating in Al2O3.3H2O, is prepared by reacting Al, having a surface area of 75,000-106 mm2/g., with 3-35 moles liquid H2O per g. atom Al at 50-100 DEG C., at a basic pH, and in the absence of Hg or Hg-compounds. Summary:Alumina predominating in Al2O3.3H2O, is prepared by reacting Al, having a surface area of 75,000-106 mm2/g., with 3-35 moles liquid H2O per g. atom Al at 50-100 DEG C., at a basic pH, and in the absence of Hg or Hg-compounds. The basic pH may be provided by the presence of 0.0001-0.05 mole per g. atom Al of alkali metal-, ammonium- or organo substituted ammonium-hydroxide, chloride, carbonate or carboxylate. The Al, which may have been made by atomizing molten Al, may be added in portions, each of which is less than 75% of the total Al, and the reaction of at least one of which is allowed to go to at least 75% completion before adding a subsequent portion. The product may be filtered and dried at 120 DEG C., and in examples comprises a mixture which may contain amorphous alumina, boehmite, bayerite, nordstrandite and gibbsite.
