Summary:1,101,824. Films. KALLE A.G. 1 June, 1965 [2 June, 1964], No. 23310/65. Heading B5B. Thermoplastics films are formed by extruding a melt 2 through slot 9 arranged perpendicular to the surface of rotating roller 3 and not more than 3 mm. therefrom. The path of the melt is maintained perpendicular by the pressure P of a gas maintained in a space 4 bounded by the extruded melt and the layer thereof on the roller. Roller 3 has means for temperature adjustment. Preferably the die is aligned vertically. The gas may be e.g. air, N 2 or CO 2 at a pressure of 30-60 mm. water. The thermoplastics material may be a polyolefin, e.g. polyethylene or polypropylene which may be extruded at e.g. 255‹-260‹ C., on a roller maintained at e.g. 20‹-25‹C.
