Abstract | 788,208. Cut-outs. CALOR-EMAG ELEKTIZITATS-AKT.-GES. Jan. 13, 1956 [Jan. 15, 1955; July 20, 1955; Aug. 10, 1955; Nov. 12, 1955], No. 1277/56. Class 38 (1). A current interrupting device comprises a tubular conductor 3 containing an explosive charge 5 and connected to conical heat-dissipating members 2 to which conductors 12 or blade contacts are connected, a lead-lined and externally reinforced casing 1 surrounding the members 2, 3. The charge 5, which forms part of a cartridge 4, is inserted through a hole in one of the members 2 and may be ignited at any desired time to rupture the conductor 3 by connecting wires 6, 7 to a potential source. Alternatively ignition means which act mechanically or purely thermally may be employed. The conductor 3 may have longitudinal grooves or slots so that when it is ruptured, the ends fan out and form nozzles through which arc products and arc-quenching material, if provided, are discharged from the casing. A fuse wire, located in an arc-quenching chamber exteriorly of casing 1, is connected in parallel with conductor 3 to form auxiliary disconnecting means which ruptures subsequently to conductor 3 (Fig. 6, not shown). Alternatively several fuse wires 2211, Fig. 7, connected in parallel with conductor 3 may be located in the annular space between casing 1 and a surrounding jacket 24, such space being filled with arcquenching material. The fuse wires may be arranged to fuse successively in order to prevent over-voltages and to this end a resistance is connected in series with each fuse wire, the resistances being of gradually increasing value. For interrupting a high voltage circuit, a plurality of interrupting devices may be connected in series and operated simultaneously, each device having a parallel connected fuse wire with a series resistance. Fig. 10 shows three interrupting devices 3 located in a common casing 11 with a jacket 241 as in Fig. 7, parallel-connected fuse wires 221, 2211 being located in the space between the casing and jacket and the fuse wire 221 being connected at 32, 33 to the junctions of the devices 3, these connections, however, being optional, as also is the provision of resistances. |
