Abstract | 827,322. Granulating machines. KNAPSACK-GRIESHIEM A.G. April 26, 1957 [April 26, 1956], No. 13447/57. Class 87(2). Granules of predetermined size are produced by feeding powdered material to an inclined circular rotary plate 1, so as to provide a layer of the material within a rolling area 17 substantially comprising the ascending half of the rotary plate, and simultaneously spraying granulation liquid on to the plate within the rolling area. Substances mentioned as suitable for granulation are crude phosphate, lime, limestone, dolomite, cement, lignite, coke, ferrosilicon, and mixtures thereof. Granules having foreign nuclei may also be formed. The rotary plate 1 has an upstanding peripheral rim 10 and the powdered material is fed to it by a vibrating charging device 4 having an overspill edge 8 and perforations 12 in its base. These perforations 12 may be wholly or partially covered by means of slides (not shown) to determine the size and position of the powdering area 18. The powdered material is fed to the charging device 4 through a casing 5 provided with shutters 7 for regulating the feed. The positions of the charging device 4 and of spraying nozzles 6 are adjustable in relation to the surface 1. An adjustable edge stripper and deflector bar 2 determines the boundary line 15 of the rolling area 17 of the granulation material. Rolling curves 3 indicate the course of granules of different sizes, those having the smallest diameter travelling nearest the centre of the surface 1, the curve nearest the right edge of the surface indicating the course taken by the largest granules just before spilling over the top of the rim 10. A peripheral flange may be provided on the upper edge of the rim 10, Fig. 7 (not shown), this flange being supplied with powder for externally drying the granules before discharge from the edge of the flange. The distribution of the powder along the charging strip and over the charging area together with the position of the spraying area determines the size of granules produced. |
