Summary:The operating method has an ohmic resistor connected in parallel across the capacitive element of the actuator e.g. a piezoactuator (28), the value of the ohmic resistor used for determining the timing point, the correct function of the ohmic resistor monitored for provision of a fault signal by monitoring its value during a start phase of a control device (24) for the capacitive element. Also included are Independent claims for the following: (a) a computer program for operation of an actuator with a capacitive element; (b) a control and/or regulation device for operating an actuator with a capacitive element; (c) an IC engine with at least one fuel injector having an actuator with a capacitive element and a parallel ohmic resistor Ein Steller umfasst ein kapazitives Element, zu dem parallel ein ohmscher Widerstand geschaltet ist. Zu bestimmten Zeitpunkten wird der Wert des ohmschen Widerstands erfasst.
