Abstract The control for a motor vehicle airbag (AB,GS) has an initial interface (IF1) to take a signal from a crash sensor (100). An evaluation circuit (mu C) generates a control signal according to the sensor signal. A control circuit (FLIC) controls the brake system (ABV,ABS,BS) according to the control signal. The evaluation circuit has a crash collision recognition module. Es wird ein Steuergerät zur Ansteuerung von Rückhaltemitteln und ein Verfahren zur Ansteuerung eines Bremssystems vorgeschlagen, wobei in Abhängigkeit von einem Sensorsignal einer Unfallsensorik ein Ansteuerungssignal durch eine Auswerteschaltung im Steuergerät erzeugt wird. Eine Ansteuerungsschaltung, die ebenfalls im Steuergerät angeordnet ist, steuert das Bremssystem an.
