Summary: | A method of the continuous production of secondary and tertiary amines by the methylation of primary and secondary amines with formaldehyde under a hydrogen pressure of 2 to 10 MPs and at a temperature of 80 to 150 degrees C on a stationary bedding of a granulated catalyst in a medium of methanol, which is based on the fact that a nickel catalyst is used on the carriers, a molar ratio of methanol: formaldehyde of 5 to 30 : 1 and 105 to 130 % of a stoichiometric quantity of hydrogen is supplied into the reactor, calculated for formaldehyde. The molar ratio of methanol : formaldehyde is preferably 5 to 12 : 1. |
