Abstract | The invention discloses a free-form surface mesh generation method based on basic units. The method comprises the following steps: expanding a free-form surface model by using a geometric method to generate a plane model; carrying out trilateral or quadrilateral basic unit segmentation on the planar model to generate various basic units; on the basis of a common edge equal-length segmentation principle, performing triangular mesh division on the various basic units; homogenizing the triangular grids of the various basic units by adopting an optimization algorithm to obtain a planar grid, so that triangles in the triangular grids of the basic units are close to equilateral triangles, and meanwhile, keeping the original texture of the triangular grids and the smoothness of the grids; and mapping the planar grid to a grid model of a spatial free-form surface by using a mapping method. The problem that an existing free-form surface grid division method has certain applicability and limitation is solved.
