The present invention relates to a device for obtaining a bodily fluid sample with reduced contaminants, the device comprising a housing having an isolated chamber, an inlet and an outlet. The flow controller defines a portion of the isolation chamber and is transitionable from a first state in which the isolation chamber has a first volume to a second state in which the isolation chamber has a second volume in response to suction applied by a fluid collection device fluidly coupled to the outlet to draw an initial volume of bodily fluid into the isolation chamber. In the second state, the isolation chamber has a second volume larger than the first volume.
