Abstract An electrophoretic display module is described, including various types of backsheets and edge seals for protecting electro-optic displays from environmental contaminants. In particular, the disclosed modular design allows a very narrow edge seal, i.e., a thickness of less than 1 mm. In one type of seal, an electro-optical layer is sandwiched between a back plate and a protective sheet, and a sealing material extends between the back plate and the protective sheet.
