Abstract | An electrophoretic display module is described, including various types of backsheets and edge seals for protecting electro-optic displays from environmental contaminants. In particular, the disclosed modular design allows a very narrow edge seal, i.e., a thickness of less than 1 mm. In one type of seal, an electro-optical layer is sandwiched between a back plate and a protective sheet, and a sealing material extends between the back plate and the protective sheet. In some cases, the protective sheet includes multiple layers of transparent material to provide physical protection and reduce intrusion of water.
