Abstract | The present invention is a paste for an external electrode. According to the present disclosure, it is possible to provide a paste for an external electrode capable of forming an external electrode having excellent compactness. The paste for an external electrode disclosed herein contains at least conductive particles, glass particles, and a dispersion medium. In addition, the glass particles of the paste for external electrodes contain 1-10 mass% of SiO2 in terms of oxide mass ratio and 40-60 mass% of alkaline earth metal oxide. The ratio (DBET/D50) of the median diameter (D50) of the glass particles as determined by the laser diffraction scattering method to the BET diameter (DBET) as determined by the BET specific surface area is 0.15-1. The glass particles of the above-described configuration become a glass component having low viscosity during the firing of the paste and are filled into the pores of the external electrode, and thus an external electrode having excellent compactness can be formed.
