Summary:An end effector for use with a surgical stapling instrument is provided. The end effector includes a first jaw and a second jaw. The first jaw includes an anvil that includes a proximal cam acting member. At least one jaw is movable relative to the other jaw to close the end effector. The second jaw comprises an elongated channel, and the elongated channel comprises a proximal channel orifice; and a staple cartridge, the staple cartridge being insertable into the elongated channel. The staple cartridge comprises a cartridge body and a cartridge disc. The cartridge tray includes a proximal tray aperture that, in an unlocked configuration, is configured to be positioned partially distal to the proximal channel aperture when the staple cartridge is assembled with the elongate channel. The cam acting member is configured to proximally translate the cartridge tray relative to the cartridge body from the unlocked configuration to a locked configuration during transition of the end effector to a closed configuration
