Abstract Aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communications. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may receive information indicating a timer value of a timer associated with discarding a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) service data unit (SDU). The UE may determine that a timer modification condition is satisfied. The UE may modify the timer value based at least in part on the determination that the timer modification condition is satisfied. The UE may transmit communications using the modified timer value.
