Abstract | The present invention relates to a method of preventing or treating airway inflammation and/or related complications triggered by enterovirus 3C protease activated NLRP1 by using a compound or composition comprising an inhibitor of NLRP1 inflammasome activation. In one embodiment, the enterovirus 3C protease is from a viral species selected from the group consisting of human enterovirus A (HEV-A), human enterovirus B (HEV-B), human enterovirus C (HEV-C), human enterovirus D (HEV-D), human rhinovirus A (HRV-A), human rhinovirus B (HRV-B), and human rhinovirus C (HRV-C). In some embodiments, the compound is selected from the group consisting of MLN 4924, TAS4464, ZM223, MG132, and bortezomib.
