Abstract | An ultrasound system and method for classifying obstacles using a machine learning algorithm. A system and method for classifying one or more objects within the vicinity of a vehicle is disclosed. The ultrasound data may be received from a plurality of ultrasound sensors and may include echo signals indicative of one or more objects located closest within the vicinity of the vehicle. One or more features may be calculated from the ultrasound data using one or more signal processing algorithms that are unique for each of the plurality of ultrasound sensors. The one or more features may be combined using a second horizontal signal processing algorithm to determine a geometry of the one or more objects. The one or more features may then be statistically aggregated at the object level. The one or more objects may then be classified using a machine learning algorithm that compares an input for each of the one or more features to the trained classifier.
