Abstract | The invention relates to a lubricant composition containing ashless TBN molecules. There is provided a lubricant composition comprising: a base oil of lubricating viscosity and an ashless TBN lubricant additive: wherein R1, R2, R3 are each independently hydrogen; a C1 to C6 hydrocarbyl group; a C1-C6 alkyl, aryl or alkoxy group, or a C1-C6 hydrocarbyl group further comprising an ether linkage linking a-O (CH2) n-CH3 group, where n = 0 to 3.
