Summary:The present invention provides a polyether prepared by polymerizing an alkylene oxide in the presence of a starter, an aluminum compound having at least one hydrocarbyl substituent, and a cyclic amidine. The molar ratio of the amount of phosphorus-nitrogen base present to the amount of starter is very small. Compared with the condition of singly using the aluminum compound, the existence of a small amount of cyclic amidine greatly improves the catalytic activity of the system. The product polyethers have small amounts of unsaturated polyether impurities and little or no unwanted high molecular weight moieties.
