Abstract A compact see-through head-up display (HUD) for a vehicle (e.g., an aircraft) is implemented as a stationary display, a head-mounted display, a helmet-mounted display, or the like, positionable in front of a user (e.g., a pilot). The HUD may be provided as an integrated stack-up including a see-through emissive display positioned between a predetermined number of first and second optical counterparts, each optical counterpart including a wave plate coupled with a polarization directing lens.
