Abstract The invention discloses a preparation method of a catalyst for preparing methyl glycolate through selective hydrogenation of dimethyl oxalate, and relates to a preparation method of a catalyst. The preparation method of the catalyst comprises the following steps: firstly, preparing the main active component and the auxiliary active component into a salt-ammonia complex by adopting a precipitant, wherein the precipitant is ammonia water, urea and ammonium bicarbonate; alkoxy silane, high-purity fumed silica and high-purity silicon powder are used as silicon sources to be added into the complexing solution; the catalyst is prepared by the following steps: heating to remove ammonia, drying at 120 DEG C for 12 hours, and roasting at 450-750 DEG C for 4 hours, and the loading capacity of the active component is 0-25% (weight).
