Abstract | A method for manufacturing a coil spring (20) includes: a preparation step of preparing a coil spring (30) having a free length of L1 and a value D/d obtained by dividing a coil center diameter D by a wire diameter d of 5.5-10; a compression step in which the coil spring (30) is compressed at a compression ratio within the range of 0.45-0.7, the compression ratio being defined by (L1-L2)/L1 when the compressed length of the coil spring (30) is L2; and a stress peening step for peening at least the inner peripheral surface of the coil spring (30) while maintaining the compressed state of the coil spring (30).
