Abstract The invention discloses a battery module. The battery module comprises a first current collector assembly, a first carrier layer and a first plurality of battery cells. A first terminal of each of the first plurality of battery cells is electrically coupled to a busbar of the first current collector assembly. A first end of each of the first plurality of battery cells is physically coupled to the first carrier layer. The first carrier layer is positioned between the first current collector assembly and the first plurality of battery cells. The battery module comprises a thermal transfer plate and a first thermal interface material thermally and structurally coupling a second end of each of the first plurality of battery cells to the thermal transfer plate.
