The method comprises the steps of obtaining a to-be-processed forward face picture; carrying out mask processing on the forward face picture to obtain a face region picture; converting the color data in the face region map into a preset color space to obtain an illumination component value of the face region map; according to the illumination component value, evaluating the illumination quality of the full-face region, the left and right face regions and/or the key region to obtain a picture illumination evaluation result. According to the method, the picture background is removed by processing and cutting the picture mask to obtain the human face region graph, so that the influence of the picture background on portrait illumination quality evaluation is avoided, the illumination evaluation result accurately reflects the human face illumination quality, and the evaluation result is mor
