The method for producing the polyphenylene ether resin having a specific concentration viscosity ([eta] sp/c) of 0.03-0.20 dL/g as measured with a chloroform solution having a concentration of 0.5 g/dL at 30 DEG C, is characterized by comprising a polymerization step for oxidative polymerization of a phenolic compound in the presence of a catalyst and an oxygen-containing gas, wherein the phenol compound is continuously supplied to a first polymerization tank and a second polymerizationtank by using at least three polymerization tanks including first to third polymerization tanks.
